"All That Glitters: Gold, Silver and the Pennsylvania Society of Goldsmiths"
Exhibition
Dates
November 6th December 23rd First Friday Artist Receptions
November 6th & December 4th - 7:00 - 10:00pm
This fall, residents of the Lehigh Valley will have the opportunity to view exquisitely handcrafted jewelry from some of Pennsylvania’s leading contemporary metalsmiths. In “Al That Glitters: Gold, Silver and the Pennsylvania Society of Goldsmiths (PSG)” the works of over 20 members of this prestigious society will be on display (and for sale) from November 6th through December23rd at Monsoon Gallery, located at 11 East Third Street in Bethlehem.
“We are fortunate and privileged,” says Kirk Kozero, PSG’s Director of Development, “to be able to showcase the works of so many of our members, many of whom are from the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas.” Among the artists with local ties are Loretta Tryon (Coopersburg), Judith Renstrom (Springtown), Beth Taylor (Bethlehem), Mark Wengryn (Orefield), and Donna Liebensperger (Zionsville).
PSG members are widely recognized, nationally and internationally, for their one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces, created with gold, platinum, silver, copper, steel, and bronze. Many of the pieces are accented with precious and semi-precious stones or embellished with enamels, fused gold designs, or everyday objects such as river stones, nuts and bolts, and even bottle caps.
“Increasingly,” explains Kozero, “people who want to express their individuality are buying handcrafted jewelry…and they are turning to craft galleries, rather than to department stores or chain jewelry stores, for their purchases. Buyers are now realizing how important it is today to support local artists and the local economy.”
According to Karen DeLarco, PSG’s Director of Galleries and Exhibitions, “No matter what your taste, there is something in the show for everyone…from jewelry that you’ll want to wear every day…to sophisticated pieces that are the perfect complement to more formal attire…all handmade..and all at very affordable prices.”
The opening reception for “All That Glitters: Silver, Gold and the Pennsylvania Society of Goldsmiths” is from 7:00 to10:00 p.m. on Friday, November 6th at Monsoon Gallery. The artists will also be at gallery from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4th.
