Chris Carter
"Unveiled - The Anatomy of a Painting"
Exhibition
Dates
October 3 - through November 5 First Friday Opening Reception
October 3rd- 7:00 - 10:00pm
As students head back to school, a fabulous art lesson will be available to gallery-goers in Bethlehem. New Jersey artist Chris Carter understands that modern art can mystify, and she makes it her mission to bridge the gap between artist and viewer. She brings this mission, along with her stunning paintings, to Monsoon Galleries (11 E 3rd St Bethlehem) for the month of October. She will also be making several personal appearances at Monsoon to lead workshops for students and art-lovers of all ages.
Each piece in "Unveiled - The Anatomy of a Painting" clearly represents one or more of the five elements of art: line, shape, value, color and texture. Carter seeks to teach viewers what to look for in an abstract work by isolating and illustrating each element.
On the walls will be an impressively wide range of works. Carter creates traditional oil paintings with Classical representation of the human form as well as wildly abstract acrylic works which explode with drips and splatter. There are also ink drawings and watercolors which beautifully represent line and color.
A feeling of movement through space dominates Carter's work -- subjects include dancers, the open road, and even the movement of music. Abstract works with titles like "Shawangunk Boogie Woogie" and "Moving to the Heat of the Beat" show how sound can be captured in paints.
Carter, who is highly regarded as a speaker, will be appearing in
person throughout the month of October. Interested groups can schedule
a session with Carter at Monsoon Gallery where she will serve as guide
through the exhibit, answering questions and leading workshops. She
also will host sessions on yoga and art the presentations will be
sure to spark creativity in those who attend, illuminating the art
in the world all around us.
