Artist Statement: "I
find inspiration for my painting in the beauty and tactility
of nature. Sculpting the natural environment fuels my artistic
spirit. I endeavor to capture the vivacity and depth of pigments
in nature. Such exploratory
|
painting allows me to find details
and reflective color that upon first glance might otherwise
be overlooked by the naked eye. Working primarily with palette
knives, I mold and shape the textures of the world around us
onto an otherwise flat surface, provoking the viewer to want
to reach out and touch the surface of the painting. The tactility
of the paint is a major element in my work. The surface quality
of my work brings movement and intensity to my subjects. For
example, a delicate branch with blossoms becomes a powerful
and striking force in my painting demanding the viewer’s attention.
Such is the goal in all my work, to relate the greatness of
simple structures one may see everyday within the scenery of
the natural world."
