Melissa Bryant

Biography | Portfolio

Melissa was born in the Philippines. Having only a few toys in her formative years, Melissa's resourcefulness had drawn her to activities that involved scissors, papers, pencils and crayons. Her family moved to Canada when she was eight years old. Although she initially spoke very little English, she won over the neighborhood girls by designing paper dolls and clothes.

Even though her first love has always been art, Melissa's degree is in Government and Politics. Subsequently, she took fine arts classes at multiple universities while raising five children. These universities include University of Tennessee, East Carolina University where she also studied abroad in Italy, and University of Utah. She has lived in many different parts of the country with Utah as her most recent home before moving to Pennsylvania. As you can imagine, she has seen diverse landscapes and is eager to capture them in her watercolor and oil paintings.

Melissa states, “ I have been an avid journal writer since I was very young. I am drawn to the contemplative life of which writing and painting are natural expressions of such a perspective. Although some of my paintings have bright and gregarious colors, my scenes tend to portray a simple, quiet mood. I have found that I can create a sanctuary virtually anywhere. Each view that I behold can become part of that sanctuary. What the scene depicts is not as significant as how I feel when I view a particular landscape. My paintings are my attempts to capture my reflections."
